Up to our armpits in shards!

Hi!

We are working hard behind the scenes getting things together for the Brisbane Stitches & Craft Fair (30-4-08 4-5-08).

Spinning bottles of thinset, preparing mesh mosaic bases for more mosaics for the Steve Irwin Mosaic Tribute mural.....packing and planning the stand layout and how to hang the Insects Glimmering Exhibition.

Quest Newspapers sent a photographer today to take pics of the Steve Irwin mural in progress and it was fun.....took ages to repack it all but every time I look at the mosaics I am so emotional. All the love and care and hours of work make these mosaics even more special.

I am having a frustrating time sorting out how to burn some video on making mosaics and nearly no hair left!!! until Dave worked out I have faulty drive. (!).

Workshops lately have been such good events and all the team are helping me put together the flowers and another couple of snakes for the Karalee chair project. We hope to get it all installed by end May. I have been invited to help out in Ingham, near Cairns later in the year, but an intensive workshop here first - for a park mural wall etc.

Another school in Brisbane has invited me to assit with their year 1 Art Show in September, which will involve about 3 days at the school making mosaics. (the year is filling up again!).

We are hoping to have the conference dates ready soon for MAANZ 2009 Symposium! Start saving up for a wonderful time in Sept or Oct 2009 in Brisbane.

It's getting cooler here so I am unhappy! brrrrr.

Check out Foxleigh Gallery on the home page of my website. Then click the yellow highlight link to take a peek at the gallery at Eumundi.

Try these links for some mosaic galleries on smugmug.

If you love smugmug as much as I do, enter either

I am still trying to find time to play with smugmug but I love what it does with slideshows and videos....I am working on uploading lots of slide shows very soon.
Anyway, back to work....have a wonderful mosaic day

cheers

Brisbane Stitches & Craft Fair

The cartons have arrived containing the 30 x 30 travelling Insect Glimmering Exhibition! Note down in your diaries 30-4-08 5-5-08 to attend the Brisbane Stitcheds & Craft Fair at the Convention Centre, Brisbane.

It's going to be so much fun, making pieces for the Steve Irwin Mosaic Mural tribute, raising money for Starlight kids in the money in the dunny (as we do every year) and showing what to do with wine bottles in mosaic art.....

We will also have the 30 x 30 exhibition on display, be able to give info about the conference in 2009 in Brisbane and lots more and help answer mosaic questions. It's a chance to join MAANZ and meet mosaic addicts and mosaic artists.

See you there. Need more info or like to help on the stand? contact sandy@ozmosaics.com

cheers

koalas and mosaic art

One of the fish watches the mosaic madness! I am sure this fish could use the Leponnit mosaic cutters! This fish would surely know how to use Sandy's famous moZcatcha! Cut safely, efficiently and easily using the moZcatcha! The moZcover is also a mosaic must!
A cheery section of the studio.

Mosaic Diva Report! Mozzie Maud dropped over a week or so ago with chocolates, champagne (pink of course!) and this adorable Diva Bootie! I am so spoilt!
Thank you Wendy! xxxx This lovely mosaic was made for me by my son's girlfriend! Thank you Maddie! (aka Shelley).

I love this mosic in the soft morning light in the studio.

The start of the petal sections containing "land" and "creature" elements to balance the other side of the chair featuring the "rivers" and "water life". Primary school children made the koala and lots of the flowers to be added to the mural. Sandy was artist in residence at Karalee State Primary School and working with the teachers and students was a wonderful experience and very inspiring.

Designing Des watched on and Millie was on lift duty, looking as gorgeous as ever. Septica always is sneaking around trying to get into the Secret Tower Room.

Here are the mesh petals and leaves for the first flower for the chair mural.

These are the tiles for the flower petal border to blend with Aboriginal artwork later on, painted directly to the chair. I ran a very busy beginner mosaic workshop on Saturday and on Sunday started working on one of the flower mosaic panels for the chair project. Mum and Popette helped all day and we really enjoyed working on this mosaics.

I applied the koala mosaics made by the students at Karalee State Primary School with cement based adhesive, (thinset) to the mosaic fibreglass mesh (we stock this at OzMosaics) and this gives a good "attachment" and is waterproof. Popette took a video of me applying the thinset to the mesh which will be uploaded in the "how to section" of the website, in the near future.

This green leaf has been sectioned off for shading. Popette is doing a great job!

These mosaic flowers always brighten me up! If you would like to learn to make them, book a workshop at OzMosaics, after you have completed your beginner workshop at OzMosaics studio.
Today, Polly and Popette are coming over to continue working on the large flower mosaic segmnents with me.
I love it when they work with me, it makes it all so much more enjoyable and we certainly have lots of SEcret Women's business to discuss!!!
Check in again soon! I hope everyone who attended SAMA in Miami USA had a blast! I am in the middle of planning the MAANZ conference in Brisbane Australia 2009....join MAANZ and come to the Symposium! Visit MAANZ website for updates and newsletters. Membership is $115 for Life!!!!
Cheers and have a happy mosaic moment today!

Busy mosaic month!

Wow, March just flew by. Mosaic Mosaic Mosaic! A visit to Phantom of the Opera was a treat but most of March was spent on mosaic workshops, mosaic classes and making mosaics in general!

Great news! OzMosaics now has a mosaic gallery in the Queensland Hinterland, north coast. A mosaic marble art gallery, run by Sandy's mosaic art agent Rachel Waller. The gallery "FoxLeigh" is set in the beautiful Eumundi bushland and is by appointment. If you are visiting the Eumundi Markets on a Wednesday or Saturday, why not phone and make an appointment with Rachel to view the most stunning glass and marble mosaic art.

Contact Sandy, Dave or Rachel on 07 38474873 or email dave@ozmosaics.com for more information. Imagine a mosaic masterpiece installed in your home, garden, pool or business.

The beginners introduction to mosaic art workshops at OzMosaics mosaic studio have been fabulous and Sandy looks forward to introducing many more beginners to the ancient art of mosaics. Be warned it is addictive!

The Karalee chair project is underway and hopefully completion will be in May 2008.

The Brisbane Stitches and Craft Fair (Reed) is on 30-4-08 to Sun 4-5-08 and MAANZ and OzMosaics will be running a wonderful mosaic exhibition, featuring the 30 x 30 Travelling MAANZ "Insect Glimmering" juried art show.

More work will be done on a piece of the Steve Irwin mural tribute and Sandy will show some exciting new mosaic tips and tricks; especially with wine bottles. So much fun and info...Find out more about joining MAANZ and also information on the 2009 Mosaic Symposium, to be held in Brisbane!

Anyway, more news later, I have a full mosaic class and workshop tomorrow and it's time for some rest.

Keep on smashing and mosaic your 'art out!
Cheers
